BCRMCA 2008 Safety Awards

To recognize leaders in our industry and encourage all members to promote excellence in safety practices, procedures, behaviours and attitudes, BCRMCA, together with the Construction Safety Network, are calling for submissions for the 2008 Safety Awards.

These include the Performance Award, an award for producers with a superior safety record based on safety statistics; the Innovation Award, to recognize outstanding achievement in the area of development of an invention or innovative solution to a safety challenge; and the President's Award designed to recognize an individual who is an exceptional safety champion.

Submission forms are available here in standard form for hand-written entries, or the new editable form.    Entry deadline date is June 15, 2009.

Award recipients will be selected by BCRMCA's Safety Steering Committee, consisting of respected individuals in the safety field from member companies and a representative of the Construction Safety Network and will be presented on November 6, 2009 at the 47th AGM & Convention in Vancouver.


The first annual safety awards were presented to the following companies at the AGM & Convention in Penticton on October 4, 2008.   Recognized for their efforts, in four categories, to achieve the best safety record in 2007 with no lost time accidents were:   

Cat. 1 - 0-15,000 hrs. - SKANDIA CONCRETE 

Cat. 2 - 15-50,000 hrs. - CUMBERLAND READY-MIX LTD.       

Cat. 3 - 50-100,000 hrs. - MAYCO MIX LTD. 

Cat. 4 - 100-250,000 hrs. - VALLEY RITE-MIX LTD.

MAYCO MIX LTD.  was presented the Corporate Award in recognition of their efforts to achieve the industry's best 5 year safety record with no lost time accidents from 2003 through 2007.

The 2008 Innovation Award was given to LAFARGE CANADA INC. for the development of their Driver Training Program, an innovative solution developed to significantly eliminates workplace risk.

John Hindson, of Lafarge Canada Inc. was chosen as the recipient of the President's Award.  John has been a champion for safety for over 40 years, providing outstanding leadership and mentorship.  He has truly "talked the talk" and "walked the walk". Congratulations John!
