As the Pinewood Lane development in Nanaimo neared completion, the developer was looking for a paving product that offered the consumer something innovative in the market place.
Aesthetics, durability and sustainability were foremost in the owner’s mind when concrete was considered.
From a realtor’s perspective, these value-added features dramatically enhanced the average selling price of each of the units in this project.

The project team chose to eliminate the curbing, and design a portion of the roadway to collect and direct storm-water to irrigate the surrounding landscaped areas, saving both the capital costs for curbing and storm drains, as well as reducing water consumption and irrigation requirements.
They also specified a broomed finish for the pavement, which offers residents and visitors superior slip resistance for both foot and vehicular traffic.

During the day, the lighter colour of concrete reflects light better to reduce surface temperatures and create a cool community, reducing the demand for air conditioning.
At night that same reflectivity can reduce lighting costs and improve visibility in dark or wet conditions, adding to the safety and peace of mind for the community.
