When asked to design a 120 seat restaurant for a hotel complex with property lines extending well into Okanagan Lake , this design team saw the opportunity to create a jewel, sitting in the lake rather than next to it.

Fluid images of waves splashing against the shore came to mind, and the concept of a light curved roof, buttressed by concrete masses, was developed early on.

Construction for this design build project began with a concrete suspended deck on steel piles filled with concrete.

The slab incorporates radiant heat from the hotel’s ground source heat pump, and showcases an exposed concrete finish for both its beauty and durability in wet conditions.

The exterior was constructed from poured concrete walls acting as buttresses that provide the necessary shear elements on the east and west ends, and a concrete gutter was formed to tie the two forms together.

In addition to providing necessary shelter to the main entrance from the bridge, as the gutter fills with rain, water pours out of the ends as a waterfall.
