This 2,067 square foot Tofino vacation home nestles into an undisturbed ocean-front landscape, commanding views of the dynamic, rugged west coast waterfront.

Both house and garage use and feature concrete throughout, as a natural material to withstand the demands of the often stormy west coast climate, and provide sound structural integrity.

Cast-in-place reinforced concrete was the primary structural material, and is naturally exposed throughout the house as an expression of its structural framework and honesty in appearance.

Walls, columns, cantilevered exterior decks and broad roof overhangs are revealed in their cast-in-place form.

Inside, a generous open-plan includes a fireplace separating the living and dining area, a central skylight spine, an ensuite bath with views to the stream-fed Zen water garden outside, and expansive views of the wild coastline from all rooms.

The overall simplicity of concrete’s natural interior finish is enhanced by the exposed, lightly sandblasted concrete walls and cruciform shaped columns creating a comforting balance with the exterior elements.
