From 2006 to 2009 BCRMCA was proud to host the CONNIE Awards. Nicknamed the CONNIEs for "CONcrete CONstruction", the Awards for Excellence in Concrete Construction recognized works that exemplified vision and innovation in the use of concrete in a variety of applications throughout British Columbia. These awards showcased the high calibre of expertise and hard work associated with the sophisticated construction market in BC.
All projects were located within the province of BC and highlighted the innovative use of concrete as a principal construction element. Winners were chosen in each of the following categories:
1. Architectural Concrete
2. Cast-In-Place Structures
3. Mid-to-High Rise
4. Public Works
5. Residential: a) Single-Family b) Multi-Family
6. Special Applications: a) Technical Merit b) Artistic Merit
7. Tilt-Up Structures
Each entry was judged on its own merit by a panel of highly qualified, impartial judges, who were selected for their expertise in their field. Judging was based on architectural merit, creativity, quality of engineering design, innovative construction techniques or solutions, complexity, sustainable elements, functionality and end use suitability. Finalists and a category winner were selected from each category. The winning projects from each category then competed against each other for the Grand Award, awarded to the category winner that best employed the unique advantages of ready-mixed concrete.
